We were always fascinated by the beauty of different textiles. When you see such a detailed picture of the structure of some amazing fabric, you can definitely understand the whole world of exploration and development behind its creation. And you are just mesmerized by the beauty of it. So we started our THM MACROSHOTS editorial series, where we explore the complexity, depth, and beauty of different fabrics, textiles, materials, and hardware through the macro lens.

In our new macroeditorial, we decided to experiment and take on a macro research of an unusual functional and advanced object. This is a 4-bed 3-season Backdoor tent from Heimplanet.

The German company Heimplanet was formed in 2003, and the idea for it came to the creators during a surfing tour along the coasts of Portugal, through the late-night rainy tent installations. In 2011, the world saw THE CAVE – a breakthrough concept of tent design. Its main feature is an inflatable frame, which contributes to the quickness and ease of installation. Nowadays the brand has various types of tents under its belt: from single person to huge base camp/expedition and all seasons ready tents, as well as canopies, pumps, spare parts, bottles, merch, and much more.

We got our hands on their 4-person 3-season Backdoor tent in Cairo Camo colorway. It is designed for a wide range of use and is suitable for camping from spring to autumn. We tested the tent at Sport-Marafon Fest 2021, as well as at our field shoot for Timberland. Although the inflatable frame may cause doubts among camping enthusiasts about its resistance to wind, we can safely say that this is the best option for most camping scenarios, given its speed of assembly and high-quality production.

The frame is made of recycled materials, the outer fabric is fire-retardant and water-resistant ripstop polyester with PU coating [5000mm], the inner fabric is fire-resistant and breathable ripstop nylon, and the floor fabric is fire-retardant and water-resistant nylon taffeta with PU coating [5000mm]. Among the key features: quick reinstallation after the first basic assembly (about 10 minutes), a spacious lobby of the main entrance, an absolutely sealed main compartment, protected from mosquitos, while being well ventilated, various storage compartments inside, as well as a shelf under the roof for valuables or a lamp. The design is topnotch, with this colorway resembling a spider. The brand also gives a lifetime warranty on its products.
