THM MACROSHOTS N54
[MONCLER x SALEHE BEMBURY Trailgrip Grain]
We were always fascinated by the beauty of different textiles.

When you see such a detailed picture of a structure of some amazing fabric, you can definitely understand the whole world of exploration and development behind its creation.

And you are just mesmerized by the beauty of it.

So we started our THM MACROSHOTS editorial series, where we explore the complexity, depth, and beauty of different fabrics, textiles, materials, and hardware through the macro lens.
One of the most eagerly awaited novelties during the last Paris edition of Moncler’s Studio Ascenti was the new version of the iconic Trailgrip sneakers, made in collaboration with Salehe Bembury, who, with Moncler Genius, had the opportunity to develop a collection, that focused “from the ankle up to the head”.

Born out of a shared appreciation for wilderness exploration and passion for overcoming daily challenges, the Moncler x Salehe Bembury Trailgrip Grain fully embodies the luxury brand's signature approach and the creativity of the renowned footwear designer.

The research focuses on the need to merge luxury and performance, through full synergy with the Moncler team, led by Nathan VanHook.

It is in the offices of the Moncler headquarters in Milan that the process that leads to a silhouette so rich in details and workmanship so refined comes to life, similar to the original Trailgrip in terms of general shape, proportion, and detailing, but completely evolved considering the inspiration and the balance of all its components.
The upper uses durable ballistic nylon with the typical embossed fingerprint pattern, which creates an interplay of light and dark across the entire shoe, enhanced by contrasting zig-zag stitching on the sides and toebox.

If that was not enough, we find a protective layer of injected rubber, stitched rigorously around the toe and behind in support of the heel counter. These inserts give three-dimensionality to the upper and recall both Bembury's iconic pattern and the organic lines of nature and the earth.
At the ankle, below the entry neckline of the foot, peep out the colored nubuck padded inserts that sprout from nylon somewhat like bushes in a flat heat. We find the same detail on the tongue, which for this version has been reshaped to fit the ankles and realized through a clever layering of nubuck, fingerprint-printed leather, and a central reflective lace pass.

The entire upper is lined with a layer of GORE-TEX membrane, as indicated by the large writing on the medial view of the shoe, which ensures its breathability and water resistance at the same time.
The TPU spoiler that fits between the sole and the heel has also been completely redesigned: it is chunky and rounded and is engraved with the unique project information that goes horizontal in circles from one end to the other, surrounded once again by the sinuous curves of various textures.

Interesting color combinations appear between the thick EVA midsole and the extreme outsole, made of signature Vibram MEGAGRIP compound that optimizes traction and is non-slip while remaining flexible and durable.
Looking under the outsole we can notice lugs, inspired by the original Vibram patented Carrarmato, and seeing through squared-off holes revealing the carbon fiber plate. This technology supports the walking posture by ensuring the return of energy from toe to heel and vice versa and protects the footbed from shocks and distortions.

Even the continuing wrapping toe part of the outsole now reminds us of a prehistoric animal’s back.
The Trailgrip Grain will be released in 3 colorways, inspired by the colors of nature and the result of Bembury's laborious thinking about color matching and shape combination.

MONCLER x SALEHE BEMBURY's full collection is now available worldwide at Moncler stores and through their website.
