THM MACROSHOTS N56
[MONCLER FW23
Footwear Collection]
We were always fascinated by the beauty of different textiles. When you see such a detailed picture of a structure of some amazing fabric, you can definitely understand the whole world of exploration and development behind its creation. And you are just mesmerized by the beauty of it.

So we started our THM MACROSHOTS editorial series, where we explore the complexity, depth, and beauty of different fabrics, textiles, materials, and hardware through the macro lens.

Follow us on the journey of exploration of the Fall Winter 23 collection developed by Moncler – a journey on which we will pass through busy city streets and rough terrain of the outdoors, overcoming any obstacle and weather condition, thanks to the immaculate attention to detail and innovation in materials.

The collection is shown for the first time in its entirety in a secret location in Paris, in a warehouse among the alleys of the French capital where the second edition of Moncler Studio Ascenti, an open format experiential footwear space, takes place.

During the event, the brand invites its community of industry experts to try on, experiment with, and gain a deeper understanding of new and returning footwear styles.

TRAILGRIP GTX
By now we are familiar with the Trailgrip GTX, Moncler's already iconic sneakers that made famous the brand's approach to footwear, which takes us on the path from the extreme conditions of the peaks, down the valley to the crowded city streets, providing the same protection, comfort and lightness in any circumstance. The whole shoe radiates technical vibes and attention to detail.

For the new season Moncler played around the carryover silhouette with new colours and materials, creating bright, never-seen-before combinations such as the Gore-Tex ripstop blue version for men or the black and pink version for women. We also find combinations of pink and green or beige and blue, as always accompanied with reflective bands on the tongue and on the back heel, as well as under the eyestay to create a special effect under the light and for safety at night.
The lacing passes through reflective bands and ensures a tight fit, thanks to the lace stopper and lace end which allows to hook them to the upper and not have them loose on the move.

All Trailgrip new seasonal colors come with this special puller except three: those of the new exclusive variants for FW23, realized with eco-fur upper and lace up with regular reflective laces, plus one additional lace in the box.

This new version presents nubuck mixed with soft, breathable and durable teddy-fur on the upper, the tongue and on the heel to maximize warmth and give a touch of wildness and sophistication. The dedicated color ways are gender neutral, in magenta and light beige.
The lower part, including the heel counter and the toe cap, is made of rubberised leather, skillfully sawn and turned to hide the stitches. This textured material is used to guarantee foot protection and facilitates the bonding of the sole during production. You get the impression that the sole goes up wrapping the upper because we feel the same texture continuing on the thick EVA midsole. Just like in the new total black nubuck variant for mens, stripped of reflective side bands and still water resistant thanks to GORE-TEX technology: an inner membrane with billions of holes that doesn't allow water to come in while permitting foot breathing.
A TPU spoiler inserted on the heel between upper and midsole will help us to easily put off the shoes just using your other foot, handsfree. Vibram is chosen for the sole, as a guarantee of research, quality and innovation. The extreme outsole, made of signature Vibram MEGAGRIP compound, optimizes traction and is non-slip while remaining flexible and durable. Looking under the outsole we are fascinated by the lugs, inspired by original Vibram patented Carrarmato, and seeing through squared off holes between them reveals the carbon fiber plate. This technology supports the walking posture by ensuring return of energy from toe to heel and vice versa, and protects the footbed from shocks and distortions.
PEKA TREK
The Peka Trek Boot is a new important introduction for Moncler's FW23 season, as it's a clear expression of the brand's DNA. Its design looks clean but effectively embodies elegance and functionality, thanks to technical details and smooth silhouette, which make it suitable for a weekend on the slopes, as well as useful for wintery weather in town.
The lacing uses typical no-grip metallic lace passers: five of them placed from the toe along the instep and two more on the ankle, separated by a small indentation on the edge of the upper, which is useful in bending the ankle and adapting to more inclined surfaces.
Under the reflective laces, the medial part of the upper continues till the opposite part of the lacing creating a special double tongue to protect the foot and prevent water from getting in the shoe. To facilitate foot entry while keeping the lacing tight, on the inner side we find a branded waterproof zip with leather puller.

The ankle is also further protected by the soft padded insert placed at the beginning of the instep. A fine, sinuous layer of leather supported by double stitching along the curves covers all around the bottom of the boot, then hides underneath the precious leather welt that follows the edge of the sole.
We find here a skillful tooling construction, realized with different layers of micro rubber and leather on the midsole, resting on a Vibram rubber tread, for a total of 4 cm sole height. It wouldn't even need to be said: the whole boot is water repellent, also guaranteed by the leather or eco-fur lining.

The Peka Trek will be featured in both the women's collection and men's collections. Three materials combinations are presented for Woman's: magenta nubuck and Eco Fur lining, total black pebbled Leather and Eco Fur lining, Printed Pony Hair and Calfskin. There are three total color ways for mens: two in water repellent Pebbled Calfskin and one in brown nubuck.
GAIA POCKET
One of the most iconic shoe models in Moncler's arsenal – Gaia Pocket, a silhouette that immediately recalls the brand famous down jacket for its warm and cozy down padding. This apres ski boot is designed with the sportswear roots of the brand in mind to guarantee comfort and water resistance.
And of course to keep your feet warm just after you remove your skis.

For this season FW23 collection includes the carryover Mid version in seasonal recoloration and a new knee-high version that further emphasizes the family.
The entire upper is realized in nylon in laquè or metallic processing technique, with waterproof membrane and padded bands.

The detail of the iconic Maya pocket, with branded metallic automatic button, is placed on the side part of the ankle, enriching the upper with style and functionality.
The Mid version is a slip-on easy wearing shoe whose coulisse lacing placed at the entrance of the foot can be adjusted by a tie rod that tightens around the calf to prevent water or snow from entering, while on the super-high top version appear a very long lace that starts at the instep and reaches the top. The sole features a TPU Matt shell with PU inside structure for increased lightness. And thanks to the signature outsole your footprints will leave the Moncler logo on the snow!
