In late summer 2023, we embarked on a journey to the legendary Kazbegi Mountain Marathon, a sky-running race set in the stunning Caucasus mountain range near Stepantsminda, Georgia, at the foot of the majestic Kazbek mountain (5,054m). The race’s Extreme route covers 30 km with 2,100 meters of elevation gain, starting at 2,100m in Gergeti village, climbing to the Gergeti glacier and the Bethlemi weather station (3,700m), and finishing through picturesque valleys. We invited athletes Giuliano Inesi from Fabriano, Italy, and Jodie Reynolds from Manchester, UK, to experience the grueling route, explore the region’s breathtaking trails, and share their impressions on running and the gear that fueled their adventure.
