Factory Visit [Revealing
TECHUNTER 10 ANNIVERSARY]
In a world where most brands chase better production across continents, there’s a hidden gem quietly proving another path is possible.

While many shift their manufacturing to Asia in search of scale, one Czech company has spent nearly four decades doing the opposite – building one of Europe’s most skilled outdoor apparel productions, right where it all began.

Back in the late 1980s, in a country still under Soviet influence, a small climbing workshop emerged from pure necessity.
From handmade down sleeping bags to advanced outerwear built with GORE-TEX – one of the first licenses in the region – this workshop would later help launch ACRONYM into existence. Its name is Tilak.

Tilak is one of those rare examples of a brand that refuses to compromise on its principles. Proudly producing in Europe, it continues to fight for the future of local manufacturing – with all the challenges that come with it.

We travelled to Šumperk, three hours by train from Prague, to meet Tilak founder Roman Kamler and CEO Jan Hauska, and to learn how it all started, why caring for people and precision still matters, how to build some of the best outdoor apparel in the EU, and how an accidental “urban traveler” line became one of the most hunted collections among true TECHUNTERS worldwide.
